Where do these economic-impact figures come from?
Every state includes a consistent OLDCC FY2023 Defense Spending by State baseline (DoD contracts, payroll, and grants). Where available, curated statewide GDP/output studies (for example Texas, California, Florida, Virginia, and Maryland) are shown as separate “state study” figures with links to the original reports.
Can I compare states directly?
OLDCC DoD spending is the best apples-to-apples national baseline. Statewide impact studies use different years, scopes, and modeling methods, so those dollar and job totals are not always directly comparable.
Why do some states lack a “state study” number?
Not every state publishes a recent statewide GDP/output multiplier study in a form we’ve curated yet. Those states still show OLDCC DoD spending, payroll, contracts, personnel, and directory installation counts.
Is this an official Department of Defense product?
No. This atlas compiles public OLDCC and state sources into an independent directory. Always verify figures through the linked reports before citing them for policy, budgeting, or journalism.
